The sole of my shoe was cracked just before the heel
Underfoot, fractures in the pavement began to flow
Puddles pounding, carefully beating out the pace of our hurried run
Cardio participation proposed by pesky precipitation
This is the night I cling to

Slippery and soaked in sloshing clothing
Darkened footprints form a path from door to door
Evidence of misadventure
Impermanent stains of a lasting memory
This is the night I cling to

Garments gathered in need of drying
Her half-wet peacock patterned pants lumped into the pile
My shirt contained a coffee cologne
Young hands had aged
This is the night I cling to

A lengthy embrace meant nearing farewells
The evening rose slowly and fell quickly
Drops of time hit the carpeted floor
Marking the minutes to my departure
This is the night I cling to

Nervous shaking replaced the shivers
I was caught in the beautiful storm of her eyes
This was the night I forgot to fear and leaned forward
My lips followed vocalizing my love for her
My soul was cracked just for her to heal
